Lakeville Police Department's 2015 Officer of the Year

Lakeville Police Detective Russ Helmueller investigates the worst of behaviors to save the most innocent of victims.

His efforts recently led to the arrest of Tyler Kessler, a 20-year-old Indiana man who is now facing felony charges of child solicitation and possession of child pornography involving a 10-year-old girl he met online by impersonating a boy.

He was charged after the girl’s mother checked her daughter’s mobile device, became alarmed and alerted Lakeville police.

Helmueller, the Lakeville Police Department’s electronic device forensics expert, spent months painstakingly tracking evidence that led to Kessler’s arrest.

The detective has 22 years of law enforcement experience and now exclusively investigates child exploitation and child pornography. He is being recognized by the Lakeville Public Safety Foundation the as the Lakeville Police Department’s 2015 Officer of the Year.
