Watch meeting on Facebook Live - Click Here
MN State Trooper Mains shared some general information on the Minnesota State Patrol K-9 unit and specifically his K-9 Dutchie a male Dutch Shepherd from Holland who is trained to detect the odor of narcotics. Trooper Mains shared that the State K-9 dogs are not trained in other typical police functions such as apprehension or tracking but are mainly used for narcotics.

Trooper Mains showed video clips of Dutchie assisting with traffic stops where he has helped in over 320 field deployments since last January. The value of the K-9 is that they can check where drugs are believed to be hidden inside houses or other structures finding narcotics concealed that otherwise would be missed.

Trooper Mains works with Dutchie on a regular basis to maintain his high level of performance  which is needed for the job. The meeting ended with Trooper Mains and Dutchie giving a demonstration of his work.
