Rotary International was founded in 1905 to foster fellowship and ethical business practices amoung the business and professional leaders in the community. Therefore, Rotary clubs meet each week, and the members are expected to attend and participate in these meetings. When an absence is unavoidable, the member should "makeup" the meeting within the two weeks preceding or following it. Members who miss a meeting can attend a make-up meeting at another Rotary Club locally or anywhere around the globe. Members can also attend a digital meeting online at http://www.rotaryeclubone.org. By spending 30 minutes online reviewing Rotary information and making a donation similar to attending a regular meeting, you will receive a certificate of attendence. Members can also makeup a meeting by attending and participating in a club committee, Board of Director monthly meeting, or working on a club sponsored project of the home club. Members may also attend a district or higher meeting to achieve a makeup that can be used anytime and is not subject to the 2 week before or after rule.

The International By-Laws specify that all members are rquired to attend or makeup at least 60% of the regular scheduled meetings of the club and to attend at least 30% of the club in each half of the year. Any member who is experiencing extended personal or family illness or temporary relocation away from the club should request a leave of absence.
